Don't forget fathers day next Sunday. Only a couple of tables left- treat him or more importantly save mum from cooking !
On Wednesday the Melton Pork Pie Association hosted the British Pie Awards in St Marys Church. The event which is a trade event (public invited to watch) saw 617 pies entered in a variety of categories including pork pie, cold savoury, hot savoury, fish, vegetarian etc. Pies came from the length and breadth of the country.
We co sponsorsored the event and hosted some of the judges. The judges included well known chefs, food writers, local celebs etc. We had staying at the hotel- Tamasin Day Lewis, Tom Bridge, Alan Stuart as well as others. They enjoyed a pre event meal on the Tuesday evening - this did put the pressure on our Chef Jan, cooking for 'foodies' including a Michelin starred chef- well done to Jan they all enjoyed their meal.
The event the following day was a great success and we had local press & TV coverage, and national coverage on Daybreak and the One Show.
On Bank Holiday Monday we hosted a fundraiser to celebrate MacMillan being 100 years old. The event was posh afternoon tea with ladies in hats etc. The weather wasn't kind to us with constant drizzle, we put up the hotel marquees as well as some loaned ones and we were able to keep everyone under cover. The marquees were decorated with bunting, the tables had cloths and flowers - afternoon tea was laid out with an abundance of sandwiches and cakes. To cap it all there was jugs of Pimms and glasses of Champagne to supplement the tea and coffee- I know which I prefer !
The event raised £1500.00 for MacMillan and we are proud to share our 100 years with them. Sysonby Knoll was built in 1911 by Mr Thurman- obviously a good year.
